Stichotricha aculeata

This colorless Stichotricha has just abandoned its gelatinous lorica, so we have a clear view of its twisted body. It seems to have adopted a sort of makeshift lorica, slipping into a narrow space between a colony of Rhipidodendron splendidum and a clump of loose detritus. If you look closely at the branching Rhipidodendron group, you can see the flagella of the tiny organisms prodruding from the ends of their tubes.

From Mer Bleue bog, in Ottawa. Collected in early May, 2013.
