Holophrya discolor

A restless ciliate with an apical mouth. The microscope I’m currently using has very twitchy stage controls, so tracking of fast-moving organisms is difficult. I did manage to catch a few glimpses of the mouth and throat (cytopharyngeal basket).

Cell length 137 µm

From Mer Bleue conservation area, collected in mid May, 2013.
