Frontonia atra morphotype with symbiotic algae

These occur often in sample from the Mer Bleue bog. Morphologically, they are very similar to Frontonia atra. They possess the same black pigmentation that is characteristic of F. atra, but they also have symbiotic green algae. This specimen exploded under pressure from the coverslip, giving a good view of the very abundant fusiform extrusomes.
I’ve found no other record of zoochlorellae in this morphotype.
Collected in a dystrophic bog lake in the Mer Bleue conservation area, mid May, 2014. 200X, 400X, 1000X
